We are a class of year 3 and 4 children at Vardon School in Hamilton. The purpose of this blog is to share what we are learning with others. Click into our individual blogs to see samples of our work and reflections of what we did well and what we can improve on.

What Makes 10?
In maths we are looking at what makes ten. Later we will be able to use this and place value to work out questions like 70+30=100 or 700+300=1000.
True Friend-Miley Cyrus
Here is another song with a strong message about what it means to be a good friend.
Are you a good friend? One that people can rely on?

Language Experience-notetaking
Today was the first day we have used our note taking notebooks. In Room 11 we use our notebooks to quickly write our amazing words down, especially when we have a language experience. Hopefully we use these words in our writing to make it really interesting with our descriptive vocabulary. Mrs Head modelled to us first how we take notes using key words and not being worried about our spelling, so long as we can read it back. The idea of the notebook is to get all of our ideas down. This afternoon we had five different plates of food including; dried cranberries, salt and vinegar chips, smarties, honey and citric acid. Mrs Head warned us to only take a tiny bit of citric acid because it makes your eyes water but lots of us went back for a little bit more! We had to make sure that we wrote down at least five descriptive words for each one. We came up with words like slimy, sticky, crunchy, gooey, sour, smooth, chewy, bitter.

Tabloid Sports
What a great day was had by all and we were lucky enough that the weather held off for us, in fact it almost got a little too hot! This year we had a range of fun new games from the classic egg and spoon race to polka dot goals and games with wet sponges. We worked together as a team to get points and helped the juniors. But the highlight was at the end of the day when each of the middle and senior classes went head to head in a tug of war competition. We had practised some techniques of counting one, two, three pull and standing on alternate sides of the rope but Room 10 were just too strong for us!

Welcome Back to 2012
Welcome back to 2012!
Well what a busy couple of weeks we have had to kick start our year with. We have been learning about statistics and have created our own investigations completing the process of gathering data through a tally chart and then graphing our results. We have been looking at our classroom rules and what it means to be a powerful learner. We have written about one event from our holiday's and then set our writing goals from these stories. We have also been perfecting the art of sketching, having sketched half of our face. Room 11 is learning to work together as a team through our Survivor Challenge that we complete every Friday and this has already been a huge hit!
It is great to see the familiar faces of Room 11 being great role models to our new Year 3 students and taking on leadership roles. Well done to our new Year 4's who are settling into the Middle Syndicate well and into Room 11.
Check back in on our blog throughout the year to see what exciting things we are up to and don't forget to check out our individual blogs as well.
